Goodbye Side Door, Hello Front Door! Porcupine Place Demo Begins
Welcome back to Porcupine Place, where the sawdust is flying, the walls are disappearing, and somehow we’re still managing to live inside our off-grid cabin while tearing it apart. Smart? Maybe not. Entertaining? Absolutely.
In this week’s video, we kicked off the first phase of our cabin renovation — demo day! Except this isn’t your typical HGTV-style, smash-everything-and-run kind of day. No, no. We’ve got to be strategic, because, you know... we still need to sleep here.

🪚 Step 1: Demo Without Death or Divorce
We started with systematic demolition, carefully removing what we needed while keeping the cabin habitable. No interior walls were harmed in the making of this video (well, maybe a little).
The goal: open up space at the front of the cabin to create a proper entrance. Because walking around the side to enter like we’re sneaking into our own home just isn’t the vibe anymore.
🚜 Step 2: Make Way for a Real Front Door
The new layout calls for a door where there currently isn’t one, which meant creating a clear pathway through existing walls and obstacles. This will eventually let us close up the old side door, which has always felt a bit awkward — like it was invited to the party but never really fit in.
🧱 What’s Next?
Finalize the new entryway
Frame out the old side door
Try not to lose our sanity while living in a half-demolished cabin in the woods
Spoiler alert: we probably will lose it a little. But we’ll film that too.

Curious how we’re managing this without freezing, fighting, or falling through the floor?
